The 3 Year Rule Applies

A good friend of mine has a theory of success in business, relationships, and life in general: The 3 Year Rule Applies to all of them.  His philosophy is that it takes three years to get really successful no matter what you’re doing.

In your career, it will take approximately 3 years before you start to see upward mobility in both your title and your income.  In relationships, typically, it will take about 3 years before you and your partner REALLY know each other and start to click like a well-oiled machine.  And in life, it seems like about every 3 years you learn a new lesson that helps you creep towards success.

So as you take the plunge on your next job, relationship, or meaningful life experience, just remember to give it the time it needs and follow the 3 Year Rule!

For a good read on the subject, pick up Jack Canfield’s book The Success Principles.  It’s a must read.

Credit Cards for 3 Year Olds?

On our last trip to visit my parents in California, my wife had the foresight to sign my 3 year-old daughter up for a frequent flier card on United.  After all, with a couple of trips a year out West, she’d have a free ticket in about 3-4 years.  Pretty smart, yes?

Imagine our surprise when two weeks later our 3 year-old was PRE-APPROVED for a $3,000 credit card!!  I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to go shopping on it and then act like someone had taken the pre-approval out of the mail.  It got me thinking, what would my daughter buy with a $3,000 credit limit?  A 5 year supply of PCCY (that’s TCBY to you and me…), 300 $10 stuffed animals, a new plasma tv with surround sound for her Daddy?

I suppose I’ll just let her decide.  When she’s 20.
